I can't find a company by name in Import Mexico. What should I do?
Sometimes a company imports under a different legal name than the commercial brand you know, or the name is registered in the system differently. Import Mexico offers alternatives to find companies even without the exact name.
How to find a company that doesn't appear in name search:
- Try name variations: In the importer field, start typing and check the autocomplete suggestions — the company may be registered under a slightly different name.
- Use the RFC: If you have the company's RFC (Mexico's equivalent of a tax ID), enter it in the corresponding search field — it's a unique identifier that's more accurate than a name.
- Search by tariff fraction: If you know what products the company imports, filter by HS Code and browse the importer list to find it.
- Consider that data may not exist: If the company recently started importing, or imports through a trading company or third-party logistics operator, it may not appear under its own name directly.
💡 Tip: When a customer suspects a company doesn't appear, it's worth asking whether they use intermediaries to import. Multinational subsidiaries frequently import through a parent company or overseas branch.
